Some freshwater fisheries include the Great Lakes, Lake Winnipeg, Great Slave Lake, and around 600 smaller lakes. Lakes have the most important freshwater fishery and Lake Erie is the largest producer. However, freshwater fisheries are much less important to Canada's economy. In 2003, only 4% of the total value of Canadian fishery came from inland waters. Sport fishing in freshwater lakes and rivers in much more important economically than commercial fishing. This is due to the billions of dollars spent on everything from fishing equipment and bait to new boats and magazines.
Aquaculture:

The reasons are; farm-raised salmon can be sold cheaper than wild salon, fish farms that raise salmon in pens are producing more salmon than ones caught in the wild, this affects the wild salmon population and increases to spread of salmon lice which also affects salmon when they swim by aqua pens.
